Steampunk Keyboard, The Mini Me Version
July 10, 2008 by Lizabeta
I was going through a handful of tiny watch parts I purchased on Ebay and a few of the bitz reminded me of a certain infamous keyboard. With much appreciation to Jake Von Slatt for the original, I present the Steampunk Dollhouse “Von Slatt” Inspired Keyboard:

Look a tiny bit familiar? The curved side pieces really are brass and the supports are metal painted to look like brass.

That's a tiny battery door type screw driver behind it. Notice the supporting copper bar.

Darling! You should definitely share this with Mr. Von Slatt.
Sara is right!
How cute! A steampunk doll house would be amazing to see.
Are you Mad? Your unholy experiments with a Destabilizing Reduction Ray will be the undoing of all humanity!
This flimsy sham of “making a tiny keyboard” is obviously a front to a more sinister experminentation upon innocent office machinery.
I shall have to approach Mr. Von Slatt with a request from the Guild to not supply you with anymore innocent victims for your unholy quest to Reduce the world!
What reduction ray? I see no such … Oh THAT reduction ray… yes, well, I just borrowed it for a moment. I wonder if it works on Richards? Up for a bit of experimenting? You could use my keyboard to communicate with us if it was successful.

Hi Lizabeta, I found you via Make Magazine and then the Steampunk workshop.
What tools/techniques did you use to make this excellent little keyboard?
Cheers,
Andy

Andy, the two curved side pieces and the triangular side pieces were very tiny watch parts that just happened to remind me of “The Other” keyboard. There is a very thin sheet of aluminum from some scrapbook material as the backing for the keyboard. I painted that brass. The support is just small piece of copper wire from my husband’s wargame miniatures bitz box. It’s likely from an Easter Egg kit. I printed the photo of Mr. Von Slatt’s keyboard and glued it to the aluminum sheet.
What a great little piece! I’m sure Jake was tickled to death as well he should be! Nifty little tour de force!
Thanks for the the clarification, I’ve put an article about you on the workshopshed blog.

I like a mini keyboard. It’s not the easiest one around to use, but it’s certainly the easiest one to carry.

I have been debating making a steampunk vignette. Now you have me convinced I need to do so!
Thanks!
